Following a News 2 Reality Check investigation into Lowcountry schools, and their compliance with a State Law requiring monthly fire drills, Dorchester District 2 is changing its procedure for reporting those drills.

According to district spokesperson Pat Raynor, principals are now required to email proof of the completed drills directly to Mike Turner, security coordinator for DD2.

"In the past they were sent by fax", Raynor said by phone.

Several schools within DD2 either skipped, or could not account for drills during the 2012-2013 school year.

"I suspect that some of these are clerical issues", Turner said in an interview for the story that aired on News 2 on August 23. "But, be that as it may, it will be addressed".

All public schools are required to hold at least one fire drill during the first 10 days of school, and News 2 is waiting for records from DD2, and others to see if the clerical issues have been rectified.
