NORTH CHARLESTON, SC -

The Dorchester County Coroner released the cause of death for a man whose body was found along Dorchester Road Friday September 13.  According to autopsy results Rashaad Banks died from a lacerated lung and artery as a result of a single gunshot wound to the back.

Dorchester County Coroner, Christopher Nisbet, identified the victim found along Dorchester Road Friday morning as 26-year-old Rashaad Lamar Banks of North Charleston.

According to a criminal background check, Banks had been arrested several times and his record includes charges of assault with intent to kill, discharging a firearm, criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated assault and drug trafficking.

There are several witnesses deputies interviewed after of the shooting at Trident Medical Center, including another shooting victim. They did not have previous arrest records.

According to Dorchester County Sheriff's Office Lt. Tony Phinny, deputies responded to a shooting at Rehab Bar and Grill around 2:30 a.m.

Deputies wrapped up the initial shooting investigation, and left the scene, but were called back when a passerby spotted the body in the ditch on Dorchester, near Appian Way.

Phinny said, the victim's gunshot wounds would not have been immediately life threatening. Phinny told News 2, Banks likely hid from deputies until they cleared the scene of the original call, but eventually collapsed in the ditch.

One woman in the community told News 2 she heard, "the guys were talking to some girls and the guys outside got upset and they just started shooting at the car, he [Banks] jumped out to try and get away and he basically hid in the ditch to try to hide but he thought they were going to come back for him but he just bled out to death."

Police continue to investigate.
