Colleton County crews cut driver out of school bus following early morning crash

COLLETON COUNTY, SC -

A driver had to be extracted from a school bus in Colleton County early Tuesday after a crash trapped them inside.

The Chief of Colleton County Fire and Rescue said the crash happened around 6 a.m. Tuesday morning. Barry McRoy said he is not sure how fast the bus was traveling.

The driver was pinned in the driver's seat. News 2 is told it took about an hour to cut the driver out. The driver was traveling northbound on Peirce Road in Cottageville when she went into the southbound land and tipped over. The bus tipped onto some trees and crushed in the front of the bus.

The driver of the bus was taken to MUSC by helicopter which had to land in a field at a nearby school. The Driver was coherent but in serious condition.
