Standoff with police ends at Wadmalaw Island home after suspect surrenders

Posted: Updated:

Around 7 p.m. the three hour standoff at a Wadmalaw Island home ended when the suspect surrendered to authorities.

According to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office,  Pearce Settle, 48, barricaded himself in at his home on Wadmalaw Island Friday afternoon.

Around 2:30 p.m. Friday, Charleston County Warrants Detectives were attempting to find Settle, because he had three outstanding warrants, including obtaining goods under false pretenses and grand larceny.

Detectives saw him driving near Leadenwah Road, and attempted to stop the vehicle.

According to police, the driver did not stop but continued driving about 10 miles per hour. The man then pulled into his driveway and fled into his house.

The man's family told authorities he had previously said that if deputies showed up, he was going to harm himself.

After some resistance, Settle was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center. He is being charged with Grand Larceny and Obtaining Goods Under False Pretenses.
