Police: Man murdered after meeting suspects via Craigslist to sell truck

CHARLESTON, SC -

Tuesday afternoon the Charleston County Coroner confirmed that the body found in Mount Pleasant Monday night is William Alexander Apps.

The coroner said Apps died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Monday Charleston County Sheriff's detectives began an investigation along with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office seeking information on the whereabouts of William Alexander Apps.  Apps was reported missing by family in Beaufort.

Apps was last seen on Spring Street in downtown Charleston and in the ION subdivision in Mount Pleasant.

Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon held a news conference Tuesday afternoon and gave more details about the crime and arrests.  Sheriff Cannon says two people are in custody for the murder of William Alexander Apps, 25, from Beaufort.

The investigation revealed that Apps met with the suspects at Hardees downtown, intending to sell his 2006 Chevrolet after the suspects replied to a craigslist ad for the truck last Thursday. As they were taking a test drive over the Ravenel Bridge, one of the men allegedly shot Apps in the head as he was sitting in the front passenger seat.

The men arrested are Jquan Scott, 19 and Isaac Williams, 20. Scott, the accused triggerman is charged with Armed Robbery, Possession of a Firearm during a Violent Crime, Kidnapping and Murder. Williams faces a Kidnapping and murder charge as well.

Scott also faces a Fraudulent Use of Credit Card charge from Beaufort County.

Sheriff Cannon says the gun allegedly used in this crime has not been recovered.

Sheriff Cannon shared some tips when dealing with ads online. William Apps' ad happened to be on Craigslist but there are other sites where these would apply.

  1. Don't list home address
  2. Don't go alone to meet potential buyer or seller
  3. Trust your instincts, if you feel uneasy, stop and don't continue with transaction
  4. Provide info to a friend or family of your intentions
