State Democratic Party

Posted: Updated:

Outside of Charleston City Hall Monday the South Carolina Democratic Party rattled off what they call failures of Governor Haley's administration, paying special attention to last year's Department of Revenue hacking on its one year anniversary.

"It's a huge issue not only to allow the hacking but to cover it up for two weeks," Chairman Jaime Harrison said.

They insist Haley intentionally hid the information from the public for 16 days and therefore plan to hold vigils throughout the state all week.

"They continue to say things and they think if they say it that it's true. It's not true. We didn't hide anything, you can talk to the director of SLED, you can talk to the FBI, they handled everything. We were doing what they said in according to all of that," Haley said. "What I can tell you is we haven't had anything happen and we're as strong as we've ever been when it comes to protecting taxpayers around the state."

The governor's office also provided details on everything that went into action after the breach:

October 26, 2012 state and federal agents allowed them to notify the public. Nov. 2012 Governor Haley gave executive orders to all state agencies to cooperate with Division of State IT. December 2012 - February 2013 notifications were sent to 3.8 million taxpayers. January-March everyone affected was encouraged to sign up for identity protection through Experian. That contract is now ending so you are required to sign up all over again with CSID beginning Thursday.

Almost a decade of quiet Mount Pleasant business life for Dr. Thomas Mirabile changed Tuesday when a man on a bicycle stuck his head into his optometry office. "Two hours later he returned and had his gun over [the front counter] and proceeded to cock it and ask for our money box. I handed him the money box and he took up the tray and dashed out the door with my wife in hot pursuit. For her protection, I went after her," Mirabile explained.
