Colour of Music: Black Classical Musicians Festival in Charleston this week

Posted: Updated:

A new event is taking look at the influence of Blacks on the Classical Music World past and present.

The Inaugural "Colour of Music": Black Classical Musicians Festival is being held throughout downtown Charleston.  Their will be over twenty performances from musicians all over the United States.

This is the first time in our nations history when an all black orchestra come together to do the classic composers works, as well as prominent black composers.  The General Manager tells us he's excited to hold the event in Charleston.

Lee Pringle, Colour of Music General Manager-"For black people, Charleston is our version of Ellis Island.  This is where 40 percent of all slaves came through the North America Continent.  So we feel like this is an appropriate place to have such a significant event take place."

According to the website's schedule, ColourofMusic.org, their will be performances everyday until Sunday, October 27 at 5:00pm.
