Crews battle house fire on Kiawah Island

The St. John's Fire District, the City of Charleston Fire Department, Charles County EMS, Charleston County Sheriff's Office and Kiawah Security responded to a reported structure fire at 23 Rhetts Bluff Road, Kiawah Island. The fire was dispatched at approximately 1:30 AM.

The first arriving officer reported fire showing from the roof and rear of the structure.  Fire conditions, and confirmation that the residents had successfully evacuated, dictated that an exterior attack be conducted.  Hose streams from the ground and aerial devices were utilized to control the fire.

Fire Department units will remain on the scene throughout tonight and into tomorrow extinguishing hot spots and conducting overhaul.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

    On Friday, August 22nd, Charleston police say a man forcefully entered the Family Dollar at 1015 King St and stole numerous soap products. If anyone has information about the suspect pictured, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111 or Consolidated Dispatch at 743-7200 and ask for the on-call Charleston Police detective.
