Wando High School in Mt. Pleasant was placed on administrative lockdown Wednesday for a pre-planned canine search.

The Mt. Pleasant police department conducted the search.

A spokesman for the Charleston County School District said  these types of activities are not uncommon and many schools across the Lowcountry administer these types of searches throughout the year.

News 2 was also told  that the search was confined to the outside of the school.

Mt Pleasant police did release a statement Wednesday saying "We worked in partnership with school administration and conducted a canine search of the parking lot and vehicles for contraband.  Several vehicles were identified for closer examination and charges were filed against two students.  One student was charged with  Simple Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia and the other  student was charged with Illegal Possession of Weapons on School Property (knives)."
