MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) -

Lt. Robert Kegler with the Horry County Police Department said skeletal remains were found on Tidewater Road near Waccamaw Boulevard in Myrtle Beach Saturday around 12:40 p.m.

Horry County Coroner Robert Edge told WBTW Tuesday afternoon that the remains were from a man who was at least 20 years old when he died.

On Monday afternoon, Edge confirmed that the remains are those of a human.

The human remains were found by a man who was helping with the search for missing 20-year-old Heather Elvis, who is from Myrtle Beach.

Elvis was reported missing just days before, Jamie Lynn Cross,  a 24-year-old mother from Murrells Inlet disappeared on Dec. 23.

Edge said that the remains would first be studied by an anthropologist and then will be sent to a university in Texas for DNA analysis.

Edge said that the University of Texas would be analyzing the DNA of the remains.

Edge had said that he hoped to have the results of the race and gender tests conducted on the bones by Thursday, but the information was determined on Tuesday.

According to Lt. Kegler, it appears the remains have been there for several years.

Major Crime detectives are investigating.
