Closings and cancellations due to winter weather

CHARLESTON, SC -

A strong Arctic cold front will cross the region late Monday evening allowing for very cold air to filter into the South Carolina. At the same time, moisture will be increasing from the south as a storm system develops near the SC coast.

As precipitation falls, it will quickly become freezing rain and sleet across much of the area before a gradual transition to snow by Tuesday night.

Storm Team 2 is monitoring this system and will provide the latest information available. Below are the closings and cancellations as a result of the winter weather heading to the Lowcountry:

Berkeley County School District - Berkeley County School District will operate according to a half day dismissal schedule on Tuesday, January 28. According to their website BCSD will be closed Wednesday January 29. Parents can find the half day dismissal schedule for their children's schools on the district's website. All Berkeley County School District (BCSD) after-school activities and events for Tuesday, January 28th are canceled. This includes ball games, club meetings, practices, day care etc. Tuesday's Board of Education meeting has been rescheduled for February 4th.

Charleston County School District - Closed Thursday due to weather conditions. All after-school activities including adult education, community education, sporting events and Kaleidoscope are canceled for Thursday. All staff at schools, Bridge View, and Calhoun Street, should not report to work tomorrow, Thursday, January 30. All mission critical staff will be contacted by their immediate supervisor about their role tomorrow.

Colleton County School District - Due to the weather forecast of inclement weather and the possibility of hazardous travel conditions, the following schedule will be in effect: All schools and offices will be closed Tuesday, January 28 and Wednesday, January 29. Colleton County is expected a delayed opening on Thursday, but the time has not been determined.

Dorchester School District 2
- Dorchester School District Two will dismiss schools on an early release schedule on Tuesday, January 28. They will be closed Wednesday January 29. Winter weather conditions with icy precipitation is being predicted to arrive in the area as early as late Tuesday morning. Schools will be dismissed on the following schedules:
Givhans Alternative Program 9:30 a.m.
Elementary Schools 10:30 a.m.
High Schools 11:30 a.m.
Middle Schools 12:30 p.m.
Rollings Middle School 12:00 p.m.

All pre-k and mid-day programs are canceled along with after school and evening activities. Extended day will be open until 2 p.m. A decision on the school schedule for Wednesday, January 29th will be made on or before late afternoon on Tuesday when more information is available from the National Weather Service. Parents are encouraged to monitor local media reports.

Dorchester School District 4 - Tuesday January 28 and Wednesday January 29 Dorchester District 4 will be closed due to inclement weather.

Georgetown County School District - Due to the approaching Winter Storm, there will be no school in Georgetown County School District for students or employees on Tuesday, January 28 or January 29. A decision will be made Tuesday afternoon regarding potential changes to the schedule for Wednesday, January 29.

Williamsburg County Schools will be closed Tuesday, January 28, and Wednesday, January 29.

Addlestone Hebrew Academy will dismiss at noon Tuesday.

Ashley Hall will operate with early dismissal schedule times on Tuesday, January 28. All after-school activities are canceled.

Ashley River Baptist Child Developmental Center will be closing at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, January 28.

Cathedral Academy School and Preschool will be CLOSED Tuesday and Wednesday. The school will send out a notice about any delays for Thursday on Wednesday.

Chesterbrook Academy Preschool is closed Wednesday, January 29.

Park West Pre-School in Mt Pleasant will be closing at 1 p.m. Tuesday and will be closed Wednesday.

Summerville Baptist Pre-school is closed Wednesday.

Charleston Collegiate School will be dismissing at noon on Tuesday, January 28.

The Children's Center at Carolina Park in Mt. Pleasant will close at 1 p.m. on Tuesday due to the storm. The center will be closed on Wednesday

Coastal Christian Prep will be closed Tuesday, January 28 and Wednesday, January 29.

Colleton Prep Academy will be closed Tuesday, January 28 and Wednesday, January 29.

Crown Leadership will be closing at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, and will be closed all day Wednesday, January 29.

Dorchester Academy will be closed on Tuesday, January 28 and Wednesday, January 29, due to the winter storm. Please watch our website and Facebook for updates about Thursday. The JV and Varsity games scheduled for Tuesday at Thomas Sumter, and the B-Team games scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday against Colleton Prep and Thomas Heyward have been canceled.

First Baptist Church School in Downtown Charleston is on a 4-hour school day and will dismiss at 11:45 on Tuesday, January 28 and they are closed January 29.

Greater Goodwill Child Development Center will be closed Wednesday, January 29.

Lowcountry Leadership Charter School will dismiss early at noon on Tuesday and will be closed Wednesday.

Live Oak Little Schools will dismiss early at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 28. All campuses are closed Wednesday.

Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Learning Center will close at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 28.

Mason Prep will close at noon on Tuesday. All after school activity is canceled.

Palmetto Christian Academy will dismiss students Tuesday January 28 at 11:30 a.m. They will be closed on Wednesday.

Parks and Leisure Services (PALS) after-school sporting activities and after-school care are canceled Tuesday, January 28, 2014.

Pinewood Prep will follow an early dismissal schedule on Tuesday, January. 28. The campus will also close Wed. 29. Morning arrival will occur at the normal time, with dismissal taking place at 1 p.m. for all students. There will be no after-school care, athletics, or after-school activities on Tuesday.

Porter-Gaud will follow an early dismissal schedule on Tuesday. Students will arrive at 8:00am. Middle and Upper Schools dismiss at 12:00pm. Lower School will dismiss at 11:30am. There will be no extended day, sports, or after-school activities on Tuesday. School will also be closed on Wednesday. All sporting events for Wednesday are canceled.

Bishop England will be closed Wednesday January 29.

Riverpointe Christian Academy will close at noon on Tuesday, January 28 and will be closed all day on Wednesday, January 29.

James Island Christian School: Tuesday, January. 28 - Lower School Dismissal at 11:30 Upper School Dismissal at 11:45. There will be no after school activities and basketball games will be rescheduled.

Orange Grove Elementary Charter School hours tomorrow will be from 7:40 until 11:40. Bagged lunches will be served as well. All after school programs have been canceled. Please be sure to make arrangements for your children if they attend the After School Program.

Northwood Academy will be closed Wednesday January 29.

Ridge Christian Academy in Summerville will close at 12 noon Tuesday, the daycare will close at 1 p.m. Wednesday January 29 both the school and daycare will be closed.

Trident Academy will close at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 28 and will be closed all day Wednesday. Follow CCSD for more closings.

Van Buren Academy will close at 11 a.m. Tuesday and will be closed all day Wednesday.

Claflin University classes are canceled Tuesday, January 28, and university offices are closed due to inclement weather. Classes are canceled for Wednesday, January 29. All essential personnel should report as scheduled. The Charleston School of Law will be closed Tuesday due to the threat of inclement weather. No classes will be held. The school will decide Tuesday afternoon whether it will be open on Wednesday.

Charleston Southern University - Due to winter weather conditions, and to exercise every precaution for our students' safety, classes are canceled as of Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at 3 p.m. The campus will officially close for faculty and staff at 5 p.m. Monday.
Residential students who can travel home are strongly encouraged to do so. If the university experiences outage of power, remaining students will be housed and fed in the Brewer Center. Beginning Tuesday, monitor Buc Alert, the CSU website and Twitter (@bucalert) at 8 a.m., noon and 4 p.m. for updates and to learn when the campus will reopen.

The Citadel campus will close at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 28 due to anticipated inclement weather. The Citadel campus will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 29. All afternoon and evening classes and activities are canceled on Tuesday. Faculty and staff who are not essential for emergency operations are asked to leave at noon. As per state regulations and under the direction of the Governor, The Citadel follows the actions of the Charleston County Council related to decisions made in the event of weather emergencies. College of Charleston
- As a precautionary action due to possible ice and snow, the College of Charleston is canceling all classes, labs and activities for Tuesday, January 28 and Wednesday January 29. This includes the Main Campus, North Campus, Patriot's Point, Grice Marine Lab and the Lowcountry Graduate Center. Almost all campus offices will be closed. Students and employees should check the College's website on Tuesday afternoon and evening for updated information on the schedule for reopening campus.

Dorchester County Career and Technology Center will be closed Tuesday. 

ECPI University Charleston campus is canceling Wednesday classes, January 29, 2014. Weather conditions will continue to be monitored. Faculty and staff will have a delay based on their ability to travel safely to the campus. Updates will be provided to local media, posted on Moodle, and shared on social media. Information will also be recorded on our main phone line, you may call in to 843-414-0350 to hear a message about closures and/or delays. Please remain warm and safe.

ITT Technical Institute N. Charleston will be closed on Wednesday.

Miller-Motte Technical College will be closing at noon Tuesday, January 28. There will be no night classes.

MUSC CLASSES and related ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES: The University campus will close for all academic activities Tuesday, 1/28. An update will be provided late afternoon to determine Wednesday's schedule.

MUSC HOSPITALS (including University Hospital, ART, IOP, and Children's Hospital):
All patient-related activity will continue as scheduled at this time. The leadership team has a series of planning meetings and an update will be available in the morning. For patients with questions about procedures, appointments or visiting policies, please contact the number in your patient materials or your physician's office.

MUSC CLINICS (including Rutledge Tower and all satellite locations):

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College will be closed Tuesday, January 28 and Wednesday, January 29.

SC Works Trident offices will be closed on Wednesday, January


Southeastern Institute Campus will dismiss classes at noon on Tuesday, January 28. There will be no Tuesday evening classes. Students, staff, and faculty should log on to the website at www.southeasterninstitute.edu or call the emergency hotline at 1-877-353-4737 for further updates.

S.C. State University will be closed Tuesday, January 28 and Wednesday, January 29. There will be a two-hour delay on Thursday, January 30-- opening at 10:30 a.m.

Trident Technical College will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 28, and Wednesday, Jan. 29. An announcement about Thursday's class schedule will be made Wednesday after 6 p.m. Information about Thursday's schedule will be provided to local media, posted on TTC's website and my.tridenttech student portal page, and shared on social media. Information will also be recorded on TTC's Infoline at 574-6262, extension 9091.

University School of the Lowcountry will dismiss early at 12:15 PM. There will be no Extended Day.

Charleston Cancer Center will be closing at noon. If you have an afternoon appointment, come in early starting at 8:30 a.m.

The City of Charleston - Due to this impending inclement weather, the City anticipates there will be a need to close offices between 1pm and 3pm on Tuesday, January 28, the exact time depending on the actions of the storm system bringing the winter weather. In addition, City offices may be closed the entire day of Wednesday, January 29 if dangerous conditions occur. A decision to close offices on Wednesday will be made Tuesday evening as more information becomes available.. Hours not worked due to the City's early release and closure should be coded 3650, administrative leave with pay. Please monitor the City's emergency line, 579-7549, for any updated reporting instructions.

Charleston Water System - Due to the winter storm, Charleston Water System's downtown office and North Area customer service center will both close at noon Tuesday and remain closed on Wednesday.

Charleston City Council meeting - Due to the impending winter weather storm, Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. has moved the Tuesday, January 28 City Council Meeting and State of the City Address to Thursday, January 30.

The Isle of Palms City Council meeting for January 28 at 6 p.m. has been re-scheduled for Thursday January 30.

The Harvin Clarendon County Library in Manning, SC will be CLOSED on Tuesday January 28th and Wednesday January 29th due to winter storm Leon. The library will reopen on Thursday January 30th at 9am.

Hanahan City Recreational and Senior Centers will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

Georgetown County offices and facilities will close Tuesday due to dangerous weather conditions, County Council meeting canceled.

Charleston GI specialists will close all offices at noon on Tuesday and all day Wednesday due to inclement weather.

South Carolina Aquarium will close at noon Tuesday, January 28.

The soup kitchen at the Goose Creek United Methodist Church will be closed Wednesday due to the weather.

Judicial Closings:
The following counties (and municipalities contained therein) are closing court operations on Tuesday, January 28, 2014:

Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Berkeley, Calhoun, Chesterfield, Clarendon, Darlington, Dillon, Dorchester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Florence, Greenwood, Hampton, Horry, Jasper, Kershaw, Lancaster, Laurens, Lee, Lexington, Marion, Marlboro, McCormick, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda, Sumter, Union, Williamsburg.

The following counties (and the municipalities contained therein) shall follow the same winter weather hazard decisions made by the county government officials on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 where the Judicial Department Offices are located. Beaufort, Charleston, Colleton, Georgetown.

Tricounty Link Services : Tricounty Link may resume service following an evaluation of the conditions on Wednesday, January 29. For more information, call Tricounty customer service at 843-899-4096.

Lowcounty Community Action Agency head start and offices are closed Wednesday, January 29. Head Start and offices will re-open at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 30.

Charleston Pro Bono Legal Services, Church Street, Downtown Charleston -- CLOSED for Wednesday January 28

Charleston CMOP Wednesday Day shifts have been canceled.

Webster University's Charleston metro campus will be closed Wednesday January 29.

East Cooper Meals on Wheels will be closed Wednesday January 29 and Thursday January 30.

Springview Academy is closed on Wednesday, January 29.

The Charleston Christian School in West Ashley will be closed Wednesday January 29.

Nason Medical Centers - All locations will remain closed through Wednesday, January 29.

Bridges Preparatory School closed Wednesday

Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission parks and facilities will close at noon Tuesday until further notice. The James Island County Park campground will stay open for anyone who is on site.

Trident Fishing Tournament Annual Award Banquet has been rescheduled to February 4 at 6:30pm at Edisto Hall in James Island County Park.

Lowcountry Cardiology will be closed on Wednesday. They will open for normal business hours on Thursday, January 30th.

Goose Creek Economic Development Study Committee Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, January 29, at 9am has been canceled.

Gateway Academy all three locations will be closed Wednesday

Coastal Pediatric Associates are closing both offices (West Ashley & Mt. Pleasant) Tuesday at 1pm and plan is to reopen Wednesday at noon - subject to change due to weather and road conditions but on call services are still available
