FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Icy spots on roads continued to be a problem for drivers in the Sandhills on Thursday.

To clear up those spots, crews with the North Carolina DOT and the City of Fayetteville were still working around-the-clock shifts Thursday, and they planned to continue into Friday.

Fillyaw Road in Fayetteville was so icy it was closed in the morning until a plow truck gave it some extra attention and scraped up several areas of ice.  Like many other roads, Andrews Road near Pine Forest High School and Shaw Road off Bragg Boulevard had spots where a coating of packed snow and ice meant the rubber could not meet the road. It was a similar scene in Moore County. Photos showed ice covering Morganton Road near Pinehurst.

Kristi Combes said she slid off Camden Road south of Hope Mills when a driver in front of her pressed the brake a little too quickly and she let off the gas.

"It just started sliding, and I went off the road ... It was that fast. I hit the ice and I couldn't do anything to get out of it," Combes said. "You have no control. I just remember hitting the fence and kind of spinned and that was it. It happens fast."

Just down the road another slick spot sent Tatiana Rietkerk's in her pickup truck sliding right through someone's fence and into the front yard.

"I was just driving. I wasn't speeding. Like I said, I wasn't pressing the brakes," Rietkerk said. "The wheels have no traction at all because it's ice, so just hope for the best."

No one was hurt in either accident.
