Closings and cancellations due to winter weather

CHARLESTON, SC - A significant winter storm will impact South Carolina over the next 48 hours.  Freezing rain will pose the greatest threat to areas away from the coast.  Mainly rain is expected near the beaches.

Winter weather watches and warnings issued for the Lowcountry

Below are the closings and cancellations as a result of the winter weather heading to the Lowcountry:


  • Charleston County Schools closed Wednesday, February 12. 
  • Williamsburg Technical College in Kingstree will close Tuesday at 4 p.m. The College will be closed on Wednesday.
  • Limestone College has canceled night classes at the following extended campus sites: Gaffney, Greer, Florence, and Kingstree. All other locations will be open.
  • Claflin University: Classes and University offices are closed on Wednesday, February 12.  
  • Dorchester District Two schools and district facilities will be closed Wednesday Feb. 12 due to hazardous road conditions.  A decision for Thursday Feb. 13 will be made on Wednesday afternoon when up to date weather information is available.
  • Dorchester District 4 schools will be closed on Wednesday, Feb 12., due to inclement weather.
  • Colleton County School District: all schools and offices with be closed Wednesday, February 12 because of the inclement weather. A decision for Thursday, February 13 will be made Wednesday evening.
  • Williamsburg County School District: all schools and offices will be closed Wednesday, February 12 and Thursday, February 13, as a result of the inclement weather conditions existing throughout the area.
  • Due to inclement weather, Faith Christian School and Daycare will be closed tomorrow, Feb. 12.
  • Metro North School will be closed Feb 12.
  • Orangeburg District 3 Schools are closed Wednesday & Thursday.
  • Cathedral Academy closed Wednesday.
  • Berkeley County School District will be closed Wednesday, February 12.  
  • Northwood Academy (Upper School, Lower School, and Pre-school) will be closed on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 due to the winter storm forecasted. 
  • Summerville Baptist Preschool closed Wednesday
  • Georgetown County School District will be closed for students and staff on Wednesday, February 12. 
  • Dorchester Academy will be closed Wednesday, February 12th due to the weather.  
  • Miss Ruby's Kids Board meeting and Education Mentor meeting have been canceled for Wednesday, February 12, 2014.
  • Voorhees College will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 12.
  • Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College will be closed Wednesday, February 12.
  • Dorchester County Government Offices and Courts will be Closed Wednesday, February 12, 2014  Due to Effects from Winter Storm 
  • Dorchester Children's Center is closed Wednesday February 12
  • Due to inclement weather Colleton Prep Academy will be closed Wednesday, February 12, 2014, and Thursday, February 13. 
  • Charleston Southern University will be closed tonight at 9 p.m. The institution will also be closed Wednesday, Feb. 12.
  • North Walterboro Christian Academy will be closed Wednesday as a result of the inclement weather.
  • College of Charleston will be closed Wednesday, February 12 as a result of the winter weather.
  • Faith Christian School and Daycare is closed Wednesday, February 12
  • Ridge Christian Academy and Daycare will be closed Wednesday, February 12
  • Joint Base Charleston will be delayed until 10:00 a.m. Wednesday
  • St. John's Christian Academy will be closed Wednesday
  • Pinewood Preparatory: closed Wednesday
  • First Baptist CEDC: closed Wednesday
  • Trident Literacy: closed Wednesday
  • Bishop England High School: closed Wednesday
  • James Island Christian School: closed Wednesday
  • James Island Presbyterian Preschool: closed Wednesday
  • Magic Kingdom Childcare Development Center: closed Wednesday
  • Carolina Bay Child Development Center: closed Wednesday
  • First Baptist School in Downtown Charleston: closed Wednesday
  • Owens Christian Academy: closed Wednesday
  • Children's Center at Citadel Square: closed Wednesday
  • Live Oak Little Schools: closed Wednesday
  • City of Charleston: offices open at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday
  • All City of North Charleston Non-Essential Offices: closed Wednesday

  • Trident Technical College: all campuses and sites closed Wednesday
  • Trident Montessori School: closed Wednesday
  • Ashley Hall: two hour delay for Wednesday, February 12
  • Charleston County Government: closed Wednesday
  • Charleston County Public Library: all locations closed Wednesday
  • Children's Center at Carolina Park: 9:00 a.m. delay for Wednesday, February 12
  • Charleston Collegiate School: closed Wednesday
  • Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia: closed Wednesday. Inpatient services and the Emergency Department will continue to stay open
  • College of Charleston: closed Wednesday  All classes and events are canceled for the entire day
  • WC Christian Academy: 10:00 a.m. delay for Wednesday, February 12
  • Lowcountry Leadership Charter School closed Wednesday, February 12
  • Springview Academy (both locations) - CLOSED Wednesday 
  • Gateway Academy will open at noon. 
  • The Citadel will be closed today, Wed., Feb, 12th, due to road conditions, bridge closures and actions taken by the Charleston County government. 
  • The Children's Center at Carolina Park will be CLOSED on Wednesday.
  • The Lowcountry Senior Center will be closed Wednesday. 
  • Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach and Our Lady of Mercy Neighborhood House will be closed Wednesday due to the weather.
  • Wee Care Preschool closed Wednesday
  • ECPI University Charleston campus is canceling Wednesday Day classes, February 12, 2014.
  • Porter-Gaud will be closed Wednesday
  • The Charles Webb Center is closed Wednesday
  • Town of Mount Pleasant Administrative Offices are under a 3 hour opening delay. 
  • Toddlers Academy & Preschool closed due to weather
  • Classes are canceled at Ashley Hall Wednesday, February 12. 
  • Art Institute of Charleston closed Wednesday
  • All 3 Sundrop Montessori schools closed Wednesday
  • Lowcountry Progressive Day School closed Wednesday
  • Children's Discovery Center closed Wednesday
  • Miller-Motte Technical College closed Wednesday
  • Charles Towne Montessori closed Wednesday
  • Both MEDcare Urgent Care locations (on Sam Rittenburg Boulevard and Dorchester Road) are closed Wednesday.
  • All MUSC hospitals remain open and under normal operation.
    All downtown MUSC clinics are open.
    MUSC Family Medicine, James Island is open.
    MUSC Primary Care offices are closed Wednesday.
    MUSC Physicians Specialty Clinics in Mount Pleasant, West Ashley and North Charleston closed.
    All MUSC classes, academic activities and offices are closed.

    Two students are suspended for three days after they were caught trying to start a fire with hand sanitizer on Wednesday afternoon. Erika Taylor, spokesperson for the Charleston County School District, said the students were alone in a classroom at Haut Gap Middle School and were caught by a teacher after noticing the smell of something burning.
