SEWE triumphs over winter storm

Posted: Updated:
Last week's storm caused many problems across the state but some from one of the state's biggest attractions, The Southeastern Wildlife Expo says the ice might have helped them out.

There were plenty of people, competitions, fun and it seems nobody wanted to stay inside Sunday. That's why SEWE marketing director Mary Roberts said the aftermath cleanup in downtown Charleston is not going to be from a winter storm.

"At first we were a little nervous but at the end of the day it actually got people out more, everyone had cabin fever they wanted to come enjoy the sunshine. We were nervous also about VIPs and attendees out west but everyone made it," Roberts said.

SEWE knows what's equally as important as the visitors are the hundreds of vendors that come together. Since 1983, SEWE has grown into a three-day event and is known as one of the largest wildlife expos in the country.

Sunday is the last day of SEWE but this does mark the unofficial start of tourism season.
