Couple at the right place at the right time, saves child falling from window

Posted: Updated:
BURBANK, CA -

A couple moving out of their apartment did some quick thinking that saved a little child's life.

The couple had noticed two kids were throwing their toys out the window for some reason along the 400 block of N. Pass Avenue. Then one of them threw his leg over and climbed out of a third-story window. He was hanging on to some sort of cable or telephone line.

Konrad Lightner and his wife, Jennifer, put the mattress they were moving on the ground to try and "break" the child's fall.

They called 911. The 3-year landed on the box spring and is expected to be alright. He was taken to a hospital for an evaluation.

The boy's parents, were unaware of what happened but said they were incredibly grateful for the rescue.

The Lightners said they got stuck in an elevator earlier that day. It took them 30 minutes to be freed and said if that hadn't happened, they may not have been there at the right moment to save the little boy.
