SC dad drops baby on head; delayed help, police say

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. - Brandon Scott Osment has been charged after officials say he dropped his 11-week-old son and waited several hours before seeking medical help.

Osment, 20, is charged with unlawful neglect of a child.

According to an incident report from the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, the parents of the child brought the boy to the emergency room around 8 p.m. Tuesday. The baby had a swollen head and was throwing up after each feeding.

Officials say Osment was feeding his soon around noon when the child fell to the floor, hitting his head.

The boy remains in the hospital and is being treated for a skull fracture, brain injury and seizures, as well as other injuries.

Deputies say Osment gave differing statements about what happened and they are not consistent with the injuries.
