SC House passes Medical Cannabis Therapeutic Treatment Research Act

Posted: Updated:
According to Representative Jenny Horne, the South Carolina House has passed the Medical Cannabis Therapeutic Treatment Research Act.

Representative Jenny Horne introduced the bill after News 2 aired a story about 3-year-old Julian Castillo, who suffers dozens of seizures every day.

Under the proposal, patients in South Carolina could legally use an oil derived from the marijuana plant under a doctor's care.

According to the bill, the oil is not an illegal drug if the patient has a prescription or is participating in a clinical trial.

The bill now moves to the Senate. If it passes, the bill will be sent to Governor Nikki Haley's desk for a signature. If Governor Haley signs the bill, it then becomes law.
