Mount Pleasant burglary happened in broad daylight by thieves posing as movers

Posted: Updated:
A couple from the Groves area of Mount Pleasant say a pair of crooks made away with more than $3000 worth of electronics from their home, with a stolen truck, while they were away on Sunday afternoon.

Helen Sanborn said she had only left to the grocery store to grab a few things and was away for some 30 minutes. It proved to be enough time for a pair of thieves with a budget rental truck.

“I hit the remote to the garage and walked in thinking that maybe my husband got home before I did. When I walked in no one answered. I immediately noticed that my TV have been taken and I ran out and called police,” said Sanborn.

According to the police report, the criminals kicked in the back door and muddy footprints were still visible when police arrived. The criminals allegedly made it out of the home with a 37" TV, a kindle, computer and sunglasses.

Sanborn said she saw the truck near her residence before realizing her home was robbed. She described the people near the truck as white, blond males with unshaven faces.

According to the Mount Pleasant police department, the Budget rental truck that was used was reported stolen from the truck rental off remount Road. Police are trying to get surveillance footage and images of the truck.

After the experience the Sanborn family said they would be reaching out to people to form a neighborhood watch.

“We just want to make sure that everybody knows that this is going on in Mount Pleasant. So if you feel like you’re secure and there's not stuff around you that's going to hurt you, you need to watch out you need to be careful.”

New 2 is working on contacting Mount Pleasant police to investigate if this was part of a string of burglaries, since the Sandbars believe their home wasn't the only one targeted.
