It's another day in Italy, as we leave our new friends in Florence, including our main man at Hotel Roma,  Luigi, and leave for the 3 and a half hour trip to Rome, or "Roma" as it's called here. We traveled through the beautiful countryside filled with vineyards, many are where the wines you may drink at home are produced.

Our main stop along the way is the medieval town of San Gimignano, a town known for its towers. The towers, which at one time numbered 72, were a symbol of prestige and power of a particular family. The number of towers is now down to 17. The town is now filled with shops and restaurants, and was one of our groups favorite stops so far. The views atop the tower walls were breathtaking, as you will see in some of the pictures sent back home. It was also a great place to snap a photo with an amazing backdrop. San Gimignano may be off the beaten path a bit, but it's worth the extra drive to get here. It's also home to the World Champion Gelataria, and I just had to try the Gelato there!  You can see my Gelato selfie in the pics as well!

It's now all about Rome, as we visit Vatican City, the Sistine Chapel, before we visit St. Peter's Basilica on Tuesday. It's Holy Week, so expect big crowds!

I also have to brag on the weather here...it's been perfect. A few showers on Sunday in Florence, otherwise we have been very lucky, at least that's what the Italians we have met along the way are telling us!

Thanks for following along!
