NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - North Charleston police say they have arrested the man accused of robbing a bank Friday afternoon.

According to police, 38-year-old Brett Brown walked into the Bank of America on Core Avenue and demanded money from the teller.

Authorities said the suspect left the bank shortly afterwards with an undetermined amount of money. Brown allegedly drove off in a red Toyota, which was later found in the Ferndale Mobile Home park just a few minutes away from the bank. Police say Brown got into another car with another man and then drove off.

Seven Charleston County schools were on lock-down for much of Friday afternoon as police searched the area for the suspect. Neighbors said police were heavily armed.

"[They had] rifles, all kinds of guns," Joy Hartwell said. "There were a few of them on the bridge behind us. They were lined up everywhere. In my yard, my front door and my back door."

Police arrested Brown at the Relax Inn in Summerville around 9:30 Friday evening.  He has been charged with robbing the bank and will face a bond court judge Saturday.

There is no word on how much money was taken, but no injuries were reported.
