The Goose Creek Police Department is investigating after a playground caught on fire Sunday.

According to Captain John Grainger with the Goose Creek Police Department, crews responded to the fire at FairFax Park on Fairfax Boulevard around 6:00 Sunday evening.

First responders reported heavy black smoke coming from the area, and that the playground equipment was fully engulfed in flames. The Goose Creek City Fire Department arrived on scene, and were able to extinguish the fire rather quickly.

According to the incident report, there were no overhead power lines or other sources that could have caused combustion in the area, and it was quote, "apparent that this was a criminal act."

Witnesses reported seeing three male juveniles running towards North Aylesbury Road. Officers searched the area for the suspects, but were unsuccessful.
