SC parents charged in death of their son, police say

Posted: Updated:
SUMTER, S.C. - Two Sumter parents have been charged in the death of their infant son.

Sumter County Sheriff's Office say 22-year-old Erica Sharice Bell and 23-year-old Ronnie Markice June were arrested Wednesday and charged with illegal neglect of their 9-week-old child.

Bell reportedly found Ronnie M. June Jr. unconscious in his bed the night of April 5. He had blood coming from his nose and mouth and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The parents told officers they left the boy with a relative when they went out hours earlier. But the relative told authorities he didn't know the boy was there.

Authorities haven't said how the boy died. Coroner Harvin Bullock has said there were no signs of trauma or abuse.

It wasn't known if the parents had attorneys.
