Officials find body of woman missing after high speed chase, crash

Posted: Updated:
The Berkeley County Coroner confirmed that a missing woman's body was found about 200 yards from where a car crashed Thursday after a high speed chase.

Members of the Berkeley County Rescue squad located the body of Laura Lynch Monday morning around 10 a.m.

According to police, Lynch was last seen Thursday in a vehicle that was involved in a chase from Mount Pleasant that ended in Berkeley County.

Investigators say she ran from the car after it wrecked in the Huger area. The driver of the wrecked car, Michael Browder, was taken into custody Sunday morning.

Sunday authorities searched the wooded area around the crash on horseback for Lynch.

Berkeley County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Dan Moon said, "The Berkeley County Rescue Squad actually located the body earlier this morning down this forestry road."

"It was a very difficult search. Water was probably knee deep. Of course, you had to be cautious of snakes in the area, and rattle snakes," says Berkeley County Rescue Squad Chief Bill Salisbury.

Lynch's body was found just 150-200 yards from where the car she was in during the chase was stuck in the mud in a giant water hole.

A friend of Lynch's tells us her family is devastated. "They're not doing too good. She did have a large family. They're not doing good. Her son. This is devastating. What do you do?"

Salisbury, who is also the county coroner, tells us that about 50 people were involved in this search operation. He says right now they believe medical problems Lynch had contributed to the death, so he believes this will be ruled a death by natural causes.

Browder is charged with transporting an open container of alcohol, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to stop for blue lights.
