Suspect Charged in Elderly Woman's Murder

BLUFFTON, S.C. - UPDATE 6/16/14 7:20 p.m.

Bluffton Police have obtained arrest warrants for Jerry Lee Manigault charging him with  Murder, First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, First Degree Burglary and Grand Larceny.

Investigators say Manigault broke into Mitchell-Bryant's home in the early morning hours of May 12th, sexually-assaulted her, killed her and then stole valuables from the victim's home.

Manigault is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center on unrelated murder charges, Bluffton Police Chief Joey Reynolds said.

Authorities have not said how Mitchell-Bryant was killed.

The Bluffton Police Department is calling the death of 70-year-old Polly Ann Mitchell-Bryant a homicide.


   Mitchell was found Monday, May 12, 2014 around 3:00pm by a relative inside her home at 168 Buck Island Road.

   The cause of death will not be released as this is an active on-going investigation.

   Investigators with the Bluffton Police Department were assisted by Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
