TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

A Tampa Fire Rescue dispatcher kept calm and helped a pregnant mom and her 8-year-old daughter with the birth of a baby boy.

Emily Hall got the 911 call around 7:05 a.m. on Monday. Krystle Garcia, 29, was in labor, and the only one with her was her 8-year-old daughter Jazmine McEnaney.

“My mom’s pregnant,” Jazmine tells the dispatcher, repeating her mother's words. “Her water just broke ... and she’s in so much pain right now.”

Hall immediately alerted TFR paramedics and sent them to the home in the 4700 block of Wisconsin Avenue. Hall stayed on the phone with Krystle and Jazmine until help arrived.

“Do you have any serious bleeding?” Hall asked calmly.

“I’m bleeding heavily,” Krystle replied.

As her mother yelled in pain, Jazmine could be heard crying in the background. Hall never faltered as she gave instructions to the scared girl.

“Just find some dry towels, a blanket, and a string and a safety pin, if you can, and just set it nearby where your mom is,” Hall told her.

As Krystle’s contractions continued, the baby’s head emerged.

“Tell Jazmine to support the baby’s head and shoulders,” Hall said. “He’s really slippery, tell her not to drop him.”

“Oh my god, she’s freaking out, she’s only eight years old,” Krystle said.

Moments later, Krystle heard an ambulance outside and told Jazmine to open the door for the paramedics.

“OK sweetie, I’m going to let you go so you can talk to them,” Hall said as the EMTs surrounded Krystle.

On Tuesday, Tampa Fire Rescue tweeted pictures of Hall, Jazmine, Krystle, and the healthy baby boy, who they identified as Joseph James, at Tampa General Hospital.

Mother and son are doing just fine.

In a Tuesday interview, Hall said Jazmine did a great job helping her mom.

“She got everything ready and helped her mom get her clothes removed,” said Hall. “She was a little trooper.”

It was a scary situation for anyone to be in, let alone an 8-year-old girl. Hall knew it was important to keep her calm.

“Use calming techniques and keep the call under control. If it starts getting out of hand, just bring it back,” she said. “That’s what we’re trained for and we do it every day.”

Krystle said she had previously ducked a question from her daughter about where babies came from.

"I changed the subject 'cause I didn't want to go there," said Krystle. "Now she knows firsthand."
