Children scramble to get out of pool after they feel electric shocks

Posted: Updated:
Hialeah, FL - Children in a swimming pool at an apartment complex in Florida got shocked.  They had trouble getting out because the water became electrically charged.

The Hialeah Police released the pictures of the Palm West Garden Apartment swimming pool where it happened last month.

There was nothing alarming about the day in the sun and water.  Everything seemed fine until a young girl touched the hand rail and froze when she felt a jolt.

A man got shocked in the process of pulling his granddaughter out of the pool. At first she was unconscious, but she did survive. The girl's brother, age 10, also felt the charge and spent several days in the hospital.

A preliminary investigation has pointed to unconnected ground wires in the pool pump house. The pool actually passed a 40-year inspection and two health department inspections - both with requirements that the pool be up to electrical code.

The pool has since been drained and closed and the investigation continues.
