More than 12,000 flags placed at SC cemetery

Posted: Updated:
More than 12,000 flags are in place in front of markers at Florence National Cemetery, ready for the Memorial Day ceremonies Monday.

The Morning News of Florence reported
more than 100 Scouts, JR OTC students and volunteers placed the flags Saturday at the cemetery, which marks its 5th anniversary next year.

The volunteers have a track record of making very short work out of the effort. Event organizer Jay Wholesome asked them to slow down this year and take a look at the stories that the headstones tell.

Still, their work was done in 45 minutes.
