ID released of Florence baby who died after being left in a hot car, deputies say

Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken tells News13 the parents of a one-year-old boy brought a child into a hospital on Sunday after the child was left in a hot vehicle.

Although the child had no visible injuries, he appeared to be suffering from the impacts of being left in the heat.

The Florence County Sheriff's office said the 13-month-old child was left in a vehicle for approximately an hour and a half before being discovered by the parents.

Law enforcement has been looking into the case since Sunday. Just after 3 Wednesday morning the child passed away.

The baby was identified Thursday as Jeremiah A. Kennedy, 13 months of age, of the Florence area.

"An autopsy was performed on today's date at the Medical University of South Carolina. Through our findings, the cause of death has been determined as Hyperthermia due to enclosure in a vehicle," Keith von Lutcken said.

"Further tests are being conducted before a manner of death is ruled on."

The Florence County Sheriff's Office is investigating to determine the events that led to the child's death.
