Berkeley County officials investigating body found in water

According to the Berkeley County Coroner and Rescue Squad Chief, 911 dispatchers received a call around 3:15 p.m. Friday, in reference to a person jumping into the Trailrace Canal under the Highway 52 Bridge in Moncks Corner.

Crews from the Berkeley County Rescue Squad, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the Sheriff's Office and several local fire departments responded to the area.

Around 4:20 p.m. crews recovered the body of 21 year old Mathew Gourdine of St. Stephen.
  His death has been ruled as an accidental drowning. 

The death is being investigated by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
