Runoff set in race for Berkeley County Supervisor

Posted: Updated:
BERKELEY COUNTY, SC - There will be a runoff in the Berkeley County Supervisor's Race. Supervisor Dan Davis did have more votes than Moncks Corner Mayor Bill Peagler, but he fell short of the 50% needed to avoid a runoff.

Davis held his victory party at the Barony House restaurant in Moncks Corner. The race went back and fourth as results came in with Davis and Moncks Corner Mayor Bill Peagler leading at various time during the night.

After all the votes were counted, Supervisor Davis ended up with 44% of the vote, Peagler with 39% and Jerry Beckley at 16%.

News 2's Raymond Owens asked Davis if he expected to come in short of the 50% threshold needed to avoid a runoff. "Well it's very unusual to win a three-man race. You kind of have to go in expecting a very good possibility of a runoff. And I just want to say to the voters, I'm humbled and I'm very appreciative of those who did vote for me, and we did come out on top."

Moncks corner Mayor Bill Peagler thanked his supporters at his party just down the street at the Old Moncks Corner train depot. "Apparently Berkeley County is ready for a change. I am there for them. My service as a mayor apparently has given them a trust in me to be able to take that job and with a little extra effort, I think we'll be able to be over the top, and I think Berkeley county will be better for it."

Both candidates say they have an aggressive campaign plan for between now and the runoff date, Tuesday, June 24th.
