GEORGETOWN, SC - An armed attempted murder suspect who shot at a homeowner in a break-in was chased off Wednesday afternoon during the incident when the homeowner pulled their own gun and fired back at the intruder, Georgetown County Deputies say.

The incident happened at approximately 4 pm, when the suspect, Francis Brian Stalvey of the 500 block of Ray Road, broke into an occupied residence on Williams Hill Road, deputies said in a press release.

"Stalvey, armed with a handgun, immediately began shooting at this resident," deputies said. "The occupant was able to retrieve their own handgun and return fire causing the suspect to flee the scene in a white in color pickup truck, possibly a GMC Sierra."

Stalvey was on the loose for much of the evening, but was taken into custody, deputies said around 10:30 pm Wednesday.

Stalvey was charged with one count of burglary in the first degree and one count of attempted murder after warrants have been issued for his arrest, deputies say.
