A suspected drunk driver is in custody after police say he hit two construction workers paving Chuck Dawley Boulevard in Mt. Pleasant Friday morning.

One of the victims is in serious condition with head injuries, and broken ribs the police report said.

According to police, 33-year-old Ralph Turnage, Jr. hit the workers as they poured new asphalt on Chuck Dawley Blvd., near Shadow Drive just before 1:30 a.m., and left the scene.

Witnesses told police that Calvin Singleton was standing next to the paver when Turnage's pick-up truck hit him, and clipped another worker injuring his shoulder.

Mount Pleasant police tracked down Turnage at a gas station on Ben Sawyer Blvd. shortly after the wreck, and placed him into custody. He is facing felony DUI charges.
