Phone scam alert from Dorchester County Sheriff's Office

Posted: Updated:
DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC - The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office has received multiple reports about phone scams.

Residents say they get a phone call from someone who claims to be with the Berkeley County Warrants Division. The caller tells the victim that they did not show up for jury duty and there is now a warrant out for their arrest.

Victims say that the caller says his name is Sgt. Wade, Lt. Brakk or Capt. Wade.

The caller says the warrants are for failure to show up and contempt of court. They tell the victim they have to buy Green Dot Cards for $351.12, $462.82, $490.55, $400.00 and $350.00 from CVS.

The victims are asked to call back with the card numbers and if they do not do so, the victim will spend the rest of the time behind bars until the next court day.
