GREENBELT, MD, August 19, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Entrepreneur E. Davon Kelly, owner of My Barber's Lounge accepted the 2014 Neighborhood Award for Best Barbershop from Radio and Talk Show Host Steve Harvey at the 12th Annual Neighborhood Award (formerly the 'Hoodie' Awards).

The primary focus of the star-studded event, which drew approximately 150,000 attendees, is to honor people and businesses that uplift their neighborhoods. The fan-nominated awards offer 12 categories including best barbershop, church, community leader, high school, and choir. According to radio, talk show and Family Feud host Steve Harvey, "I've been walking down red carpets for so many years, getting awards. I've been very fortunate. I think recognizing the common man for their hard work is a great thing."

My Barber's Lounge opened its doors in Greenbelt (8831 Greenbelt Road) and Forestville (3436 Donnell Drive) in 2012 and quickly became an integral part of the community that it serves with events and activities aimed at supporting local civic efforts such as Toys for Tots, the Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), Back-to-School supply drives and the non-profit organization the 13th Man.

Davon Kelly gratefully acknowledges the hard work of the barbers and the generosity of the community, "I'd like to thank the community and everyone who voted for My Barber's Lounge. From its inception, My Barber's Lounge has been an upscale neighborhood barbershop where you can get a great cut and have good conversation." Kelly's vision for My Barber's Lounge honors the memories of the childhood experiences shared with his father at the neighborhood barbershop.

A community appreciation day will be hosted by My Barber's Lounge from 11:00 AM until 6:00 PM on Friday, August 29th at the Forestville location and on Saturday, August 30th at the Greenbelt location. Discount haircuts and prizes will be provided to customers, and most importantly, the barbers will express their gratitude to customers for their loyal support.

A native of Prince George's County, Davon Kelly, prides himself on being "home grown" and continues to invest in the economic viability of metropolitan Washington, DC. President and CEO of NOVAD Management Consulting, the socially-conscious businessman is also the founder of the 13th Man, a nonprofit organization that provides self-esteem enrichment activities and leadership development for young males. Kelly serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Boys Town of Washington DC and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE).
