CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – Health officials with Roper St. Francis will provide special colonoscopy screenings this weekend.
Leaders with the hospital say they want you to start 2019 on a healthy note and urge citizens to take advantage of their convenient screening this Saturday.
Screenings are available from 7:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 12th by appointment.
We’re told the screenings will take place at Roper Hospital located at 316 Calhoun Street in downtown Charleston.
The special Saturday appointment comes after several recent successful weekend community-based events, the hospital said in a press release. They plan to keep analyzing patient demand for weekend appointments and will consider offering more later in the year.
To schedule an exam for Saturday’s special screening, please call 843-402-2273.
Patients wanting a colon exam need to have a phone screening including preparation instructions that include drinking only clear liquids beginning mid-Friday.
They say colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in men and women combined in the country.
The American Cancer Society estimates that nearly 140,000 people will be diagnosed with colon or rectal cancer and 50,000 will die from the diseases this year.
