The motorcade for Senator Ernest “Fritz” Hollings is on the way to Columbia from James A. McAlister funeral home in West Ashley.
He will be transported to the Statehouse for a public observance Monday before the Tuesday funeral at the Citadel’s Summerall Chapel.
Hi body will be escorted by a motorcade of deputies and SC Highway Patrol.
Visitation took place on Sunday, April 14th from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at James A. McAlister funeral home on Savannah Highway in Charleston.
A public observance will take place Monday, April 15th where Sen. Hollings’ body will lie in State from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the South Carolina Statehouse.
Hollings’ funeral will take place on the following day, Tuesday, April 16th, at The Citadel’s Summerall Chapel in Charleston.
Sen. Hollings’ graduated from The Citadel as a commander in 1942 where he would go on to serve in the European Theater during World War II, then used his experience to later solve problems for the Palmetto State and the nation throughout his political career, according to a statement from the military college.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Hollings Cancer Center at the Medical University of South Carolina (86 Jonathan Lucas Street, Charleston, SC 29425).
