New vaccine would mean fewer shots for infants

CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – A new combination vaccine approved by the FDA will start showing up at pediatric offices next year.

Right now, infants get three shots to protect them against six diseases. The new vaccine will mean fewer shots – it will now contain all sic vaccines within the single shot.

“You’re getting vaccinated sooner and more effectively at a younger age, and hopefully it will be more widely available to everyone, and you’re not going to miss vaccines when you have multiple different shots.” said pediatrician Dr. Brian Temple. “There are errors so it’s nice to have it all in one.”

Doctors say the amount will not affect your child’s immune system.

Dr. Temple says both adults and children’s bodies handle the new vaccine well.

He says if you are still concerned, you should talk to your pediatrician.
