GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – One person is charged following a four vehicle crash in Georgetown County.
Frank Cunnane was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the Georgetown bridge off of Highway 17 between Georgetown and Pawleys Island at 2:31 p.m., Tuesday, July 26.
HP spokesman Sonny Collins said that the four car crash happened when Cunnane hit the vehicle in front of him that was traveling north on Highway 17. One vehicle in the lane beside him flipped but only minor injuries were reported.
We’re told Cunnane is at fault.
All lanes of Highway 17 were closed for a period of time, but at 3:19 p.m., one northbound lane was open, but traffic was moving slowly, according to the Georgetown County Facebook page.
Officials with Midway Fire Rescue also reported traffic on Highway 17 southbound was backed up to the south causeway.Tow trucks were also having difficulty getting to the scene on the bridge to clear the wreckage due to traffic congestion.
At 4:19 p.m., firefighters report northbound and southbound lanes were open again on the bridge. Traffic is still congested, but is finally moving. Traffic is expected to return to normal conditions by 5 p.m.
