TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – Officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission have caught a bear that wound up in the yard of a home near Adventure Island.

The bear was captured after it was tranquilized and fell out of a tree.

Tampa Police officers had been chasing the bear.

The chase ended when the bear climbed a tree in the backyard of a home on Linebaugh Ave., near Adventure Island.

The bear, estimated at about 6-feet tall, was first spotted by a Tampa Police officer at about 5:30 a.m. The officer was responding to an unrelated call when he saw a large animal running by. At first he wasn’t sure if it was a bear or a very large dog.

He determined that it was a bear and attempted to follow it.

It’s unclear where the bear came from. There are no reports of the bear disturbing anything.
