Homeowners are frustrated after AT&T crews hit several water lines in their neighborhood that disrupted water service and damaged property.
According to Mt. Pleasant Water, the crews hit roughly six lines in the Rivertowne neighborhood in Mt. Pleasant over the last week.
Homeowner David Milli is concerned with the construction.
“They keeping putting in the fiber optic line and seem to have no concern for where they are digging,” he explained to News 2 Monday.
He noticed markings for several utility lines are missing. The markings should indicate to crews where underground lines for water, cable, and gas run.
He is also concerned about who’s on the hook for the costs.
According to a statement from MT. Pleasant Water, right now an investigation is underway to determine that. It’s a process between the water company and the company who hit the line, according to an organization spokesperson.
Nancy Shapiro Fuchs says her water still isn’t working right after a line to her home was hit last week. She wants to know who’s going to fix her driveway. It had to be dug up during water lines repairs.
“I can’t have a patchwork driveway because I have a homeowners association,” she explained.
According to AT&T, the business requested the utility lines to be marked by a “utility locates company” and got the go-ahead with their project. According to a company spokesperson, the lines weren’t ever actually marked.
“While working to upgrade our network in the Charleston area last week, one of our contractors accidentally hit water lines that were not marked by the utility locates company,” a spokesperson explained in a statement to News 2’s Rebecca Collett.
The company confirmed they are working with the AT&T subcontractor, the utility company and utility locates company to resolve the issue.
