Charleston Beer Week 2016 gets underway

CHARLESTON, SC (PRESS RELEASE) – The fourth annual Charleston Beer Week will be held from September 11th through September 17th at venues throughout the greater Charleston area.

The fourth installment of Charleston Beer Week will once again celebrate the area’s burgeoning craft beer scene. The area now boasts twelve production breweries and as many in planning, plus three brewpubs and a wide variety of craft beer-centric bars, restaurants, and retail stores.

Craft beer’s accelerating growth in Charleston is part of a statewide and national trend. According to the South Carolina Brewers’ Guild, 2013’s “Pint Law,” allowing breweries to serve up to 48 ounces of beer on-site, resulted in a $13.7 million impact on the state’s economy. The passage of the Stone Law in 2014 gave brewery tasting rooms free rein to serve beer on-premise with licensed food service. With a dozen breweries now open and counting, there is much for Charleston beer fans to celebrate.

Lead organizers Chrys Rynearson and Timmons Pettigrew from CHS.Beer are once again holding the series of events the week following Labor Day. Charleston Beer Week coincides with Charleston Restaurant Week and Charleston Watersports Fest, allowing visitors and residents with varied interests to taste more than just beer.

All 42 events have been announced. Planned events are varied and unique, with many focusing on locally brewed beer, while others focus on complementing craft beer with everything from brunch, to yoga, to kayaking, to ghost tours. Multiple events will also benefit various charities.

Major sponsorship for Charleston Beer Week 2016 is provided by Kudu Coffee & Craft Beer and Total Wine & More. Inquiries about other sponsorship slots can be made through the Charleston Beer Week website.

Kudu Coffee & Craft Beer is a hybrid coffee shop/craft beer bar  located at 4 Vanderhorst Street downtown. In addition to a variety of high-quality coffee and espresso products, they pour 20 taps of craft beer, cider, and kombucha. Kudu also sports a cask beer program, serving select, one-off versions of cask-conditioned local beer hand-pumped from traditional, English-style serving vessels.

Total Wine & More is a beverage superstore, with locations across the country, including three in South Carolina, one of which is located at 1820 Ashley River Road in West Ashley. Their expansive American and import craft beer selection, bolstered by new Fall beers arriving daily this time of year, is centered around a 24-tap PEGAS CrafTap growler station. They hold beer education events periodically, and offer free tastings at the growler station from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays, and 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

Charleston Beer Week events will be held throughout Charleston, Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, and Summerville. Visit for event and sponsorship information.
