Charleston County middle school cafeteria gets “C” from DHEC

West Ashley Middle School received back to back downgrades from Department of Health and Environmental Control inspectors following recent routine and follow-up inspections.

According to the report, the school did not have a person in charge (PIC) present. This is one of three priority violations that accounted for the grade dropping twice.

The school’s grade slipped to a “B” following a routine inspection on May 8. The subsequent follow-up on May 17 resulted in the drop to a “C”.

During that inspection, the report also noted problems with hot holding temperatures and cold holding temperatures.

Ye Ole Fashioned Cafe on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston also down to a “C”.

Similar violations here.

One related to not have a “PIC present”.

Another for cold holding temperatures and one for proper cooling methods and adequate equipment for temperature control. The inspector noted the walk-in cooler can’t keep foods at 41 degrees or lower.
