Charleston county teacher Ian Barnett receives the News 2 Cool School Teacher award

News 2 presents Mr. Ian Barnett  with our News 2 Cool School Teacher award.  He’s our last Cool School Teacher for the 2018-2019 school year.

Greg Mathis Charter High School teacher Mr. Ian Barnett works hard to be a positive role model or his students.  He’s our last Cool School Teacher for the 2018-2019 school year.

Mr. Ian Barnett is a math teacher at Greg Mathis Charter High School in Charleston county.  He’s from Jamaica, and has served as a teacher at Greg Mathis for nearly five years, teaching Algebra one and two, geometry, and probability and statistics.  Mr. Barnett says he relates math to real life situations, so that it’s meaningful to students.  Mr. Barnett says he sees teaching as his calling.

In addition to teaching, Mr. Barnett enjoys playing chess.  He’s an expert player, ranked 20th in South Carolina by the United States Chess Federation.   He also teaches students at Greg Mathis and North Charleston Elementary the game.
