Sullivan’s Island Elementary’s Ms. Amy Klaren receives News 2 Cool School Teacher award.

Cool School

News 2 presents Sullivan’s Island Elementary Ms. Amy Karen with our News 2 Cool School Teacher award.

Fifth grade teacher Amy Karen is from the upstate.  She’s been a teacher 18 years, and is in her second year at Sullivan’s Island Elementary.  Her colleagues say she instills core values in her students of kindness, love, acceptance, and strength. Students leave her classroom feeling like champions.

Ms. Karen says she never considered being anything other than a teacher.  She says, “It’s just what I’m supposed to do, and I know that. It means I have an opportunity to give back to a job, a career that saved me. I grew up a child of poverty, and I had teachers who put forth effort to get to know me and my circumstances.  They cared.  Sometimes that’s all these kids need to make a difference in their lives. It worked for me, and I just wanted to give back. Everyday I get excited to come to work.”

Congratulations Ms. Amy Klaren!
