Students at Foxbank Elementary School in Moncks Corner are excited to go to school. They call it both fun and exciting. We’re in Berkeley county for our Cool School of the week.
Foxbank Elementary is Berkeley county’s new state of the art school, located in Moncks Corner off of Highway 52. They serve nearly 800 students in grades K4-5th grades. Principal Natalie Lockliear says, “we’re a STEAM school, so we have a lot of engaging opportunities for our kids. We have a beautiful school, and I really think it’s the staff and the kids. That’s what really makes your school special.”
Music greets students on Fridays as they walk in to school courtesy of the music teacher. Library media specialist Jackie Bresse-Rodenkirk. “Foxbank is a Cool School because of the people here. I think that the people at this school are very positive and it spreads. That excitement and positivity spreads, and the children feel it, and we all feel it. It oozes in the hall. Really nice attitude here and it’s fun to be around.”
Foxbank is a STEAM school. They incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and math. Fifth grade student Corey Bellamy says, “One thing I like about our school is we’re a STEAM school. We have super high technology.”
The Maker Space is an area where teachers bring classes to create projects that connect to other learning. Fifth-grade student Briana Shields says, “We did get three spheros, little tiny robots that you could use with an app, sphero.edu, and you use it to code to make a sphero move.” Teacher Lindsey Stroud says, “It lets them be more active. Instead of sitting back and listening, they can get their hands on it and they can put in what they have learned.” Fifth-grade student Lily Carrick says, “It’s really positive, and I look forward to coming here everyday.”
Local businesses and church provide support for the school, and the Moncks Corner Police Department is there everyday as well. Moncks Corner Police Chief Rick Ollic says, “It’s one of the most important things we can do now is to partner with our school programs, and school districts, and these children to build that trust base when they’re young, and it’s excited when we come here.”
The school is especially proud of their news team, WFBE. Team member, fifth-grade student Roy Robertson even interviewed Octavia.
Coming up Friday on News 2, we’ll present Foxbank with our Cool School award.
