Attempted traffic stop turns to police chase in North Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – A DUI suspect was taken into custody following a brief police chance in North Charleston.

Police attempted to pull over the driver of a Ford Explorer for speeding on Rivers Avenue shortly before 11:00 p.m. Thursday.

The chase started when the driver sped off eastbound on Rivers Avenue.

While attempting to turn right onto Aviation Avenue, the suspect entered on-coming lanes and crashed into a car which collided with a second car.

The suspect, Cristobal Hernandez, is in custody and charged with felony DUI, failure to stop and having no driver’s license.

The first victim is being treated at Trident Medical Center, the second victim was not injured.
