CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) Authorities in Charleston arrested a 20-year-old suspect who they say assaulted a woman near Warren and Coming Streets on May 24th.

The Charleston Police Department released a sketch of the suspect shortly after the assault.

They say the suspect, Jacob Tyler Brooks walked up behind the victim and grabbed her around her waist. She turned around, didn’t recognize him and began fighting him off and the suspect then ran down Warren Street towards King Street.

Brooks was taken into custody Thursday on Ashley Avenue and is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

Charleston Police say if you find yourself walking alone at night, remember these safety tips:

  • Don’t accept rides from strangers
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Use busy and well-lit areas
  • Avoid areas with dense brush, trees or tall grass
