SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – Dorchester County will hold three drop-in public information meetings for residents interested in participating in the lean manufacturing program.
Dorchester County Public Information Officer Tiffany Norton said that the county will be implementing the program in support of existing industries to fill the labor pipeline with qualified applicants who lack manufacturing experience. The certificate serves as the equivalent of one year of manufacturing experience. This unique training will equip one hundred Dorchester County residents who have never worked in industry with a basic, entry level understanding of the manufacturing process.
Dorchester County residents who are interested in enrolling in the program must attend one of three drop-in meetings. Norton states that the first meeting will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 2 in the auditorium at Summerville High School located at 1101 Boone Hill Road.

Additional meetings will be held on Saturday, June 23rd at Ashley Ridge High School and Saturday, June 30th at Woodland High School.

County Council Chairman, Jay Byars, added “the Lean Manufacturing Certification is a new accelerated training opportunity that is being recognized as one year of manufacturing experience by industries in Dorchester County and across the tri-county area. This will be a game changer for those individuals who are interested in making a career in manufacturing, and Dorchester County is proud to offer this opportunity.”
The classes will begin on Monday, July 16 and run through Tuesday, August 9 at the Trident Technical College Main Campus in North Charleston and the Dorchester County QuickJobs Training Center in St. George.
