Folly Beach, SC—Families on Folly Beach are tired of people driving too fast on the island.
The families got together and organized Slow Down Saturday. They had 5 lemonade stands on different intersections across the island on Saturday July 29. They wanted these lemonade stands to get the attention of people driving around Folly Beach.
Their short term goal was to raise money to pay for more of the neon green men that alert people to slow down. They want more of them sprinkled throughout the Folly. They also wanted to get more people to sign their petition to reduce the speed limit.
Their long term goal is to persuade the South Carolina Department of Transportation to reduce the speed limit from 35 miles per hour. Concerned mom Amy Ray says that is way too fast for people to be driving on the narrow streets where her kids play.
