Folly Beach Turtle Watch Program says there is some concerning behavior in front of sea turtles

FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCBD) – Leaders of the Folly Beach Turtle Watch Program say they received two complaints of turtle harassment.

They explain that overly enthused spectators often scare the turtles, which can lead to them abandoning their nests and heading towards the water.

They encourage all spectators to stay away from turtles and their nests and to avoid using flash when taking pictures.

“No loud noises, no bright lights on the beach and you never want to get close enough to an animal to touch them or disturb them in any way,” said Melissa Ranly, who works at the Sea Turtle Care Center.

If you see any concerning behavior regarding turtles please contact the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
